It is important to help small businesses now more than ever as less and less people are choosing to shop at their local high streets. Small businesses are surprisingly the largest employer of jobs nationally and provide the most local jobs within communities which in turn does better for the community and the economy as people aren’t travelling long distances to get to work. Small businesses also have their own personality and character which helps bring life back into the high street. Research has shown that spending £10 with a local independent shop means an additional £50 going back into the community, and a thriving community means a better, more vibrant place to live and work. So how can you help your local businesses?

- Buy something.

When buying from a local business it is important to remember that they are run by local people and there is nothing better than the personal touch of a local owner who knows the neighbourhood well. Buying something locally is the best way to help put small businesses and the best part is that you’re not just helping that sole business because it was estimated by totallylocally.org that if every adult in the UK spent just £5 a week in their local independent shops instead of online, at the supermarket or with huge multinationals it would be worth an £13.5 billion going directly back into our towns which also means more jobs, vibrant high streets and nicer places to live.

- Like, comment and share something on social media.

Another great way to help small businesses is to like, comment and share their social media posts. This means a lot to the business owners as it helps to gain them recognition and social media is a great way to grow your business and can be a fantastic marketing tool too. By engaging with a small business post on social media you are supporting them and helping them reach more people with their latest product posts and their latest news and offers.

- Leave a review.

Leaving a positive review for a small business goes a long way, it helps bring more credibility to their brand and people are more likely to shop somewhere new if it has positive reviews. Writing a review on any platform including Facebook, Google or their websites can increase the sales for small businesses and earn the trust of new customers who are experiencing the brand for the first time. All reviews no matter how small, mean a lot to small business owners and can go a long way in creating more recognition for local brands.
