The Great Grimsby Food Fight Throwback - GGFF
The Great Grimsby Food Fight, organised by a few local food traders from around Grimsby and Cleethorpes, took place a hand full of times in 2019. The very first GGFF Event was on the 21st September 2019 and it turned out to be a huge success with many customers and traders stating how they hadn’t seen the market so busy in years.
At the GGFF the selection of food and drinks was incredible, over 10 unique local vendors came down to attend the event on top of the markets already amazing offer of 8 eateries including street food stalls, 2 cafes and 1 fish & chip restaurant.
The event was so busy that most of the food was sold out by the early afternoon. However, people continued to enjoy the event by indulging in a refreshing alcoholic beverage, from a local business – Bar Bubble, whilst making the most of the free live music by local artists such as Revivalry Band, Thomas Cook, Amy Hallet, Sam Simmons and Cliff Woodage.
Some of the local businesses include Bar Bubbles, a quirky converted horse trailer that is now a prosecco bar for hire, also serving craft beers, cocktails and luxury soft drinks. Another local business that joined the GGFF and is known to the market for the brilliant cooking demonstrations they take part in, is Masala Masters who offer a cooking and dining experience that will introduce you to authentic Indian food you can rustle up in your own home.
Another business that attended the GGFF back in 2019 is Riverhead Coffee, a Multi-Award-Winning Independent Coffee shop known for its healthy yet tasty dishes and afternoon tea or coffee and delicious homemade treats. Riverhead Coffee cater for vegans, gluten-free, dairy-free and other allergies.
After the final event in December 2019 the GGFF group decided to take a well-deserved break, but little did anyone know their short break would turn into a nearing 2-year delay due to the coronavirus and restrictions on events. Back in March 2020, the government announced that only essential businesses could remain open, forcing many local businesses to temporarily close.
All the market small businesses have been open since April 2021. With promising times ahead, we are hopeful to start planning events soon. We hope to bring The Great Grimsby Food Fight back to the market in the foreseeable future.
